Man sentenced for killing sister at caravan park
A man has been sentenced for killing his 15-year-old sister while on a family holiday at a north Wales caravan park.
Matthew Selby, 20, who has autism, fatally attacked his younger sibling Amanda Selby after an argument at Ty Mawr Caravan Park in Towyn on Saturday, 31 July last year.
At Mold Crown Court he was sentenced to five years' imprisonment with an extended licence of five years. He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at an earlier court hearing.
A post-mortem examination found that Amanda had died of mechanical asphyxiation.
Police were called and Selby was arrested at the scene.
David Mainstone, from the CPS, said: “This was a tragic killing of a teenager.
“Matthew Selby attacked his sister in an impulsive and aggressive outburst after a series of escalating arguments between them during a family holiday.
“The prosecution case included psychiatric reports, which found that Matthew Selby’s autism, intermittent explosive disorder and major depressive disorder, were likely to have triggered his violent actions.
“Our thoughts remain with all those affected in this case.”
