Dangerous Driver sentenced for causing head on collision
A man who drove around a bend on the wrong side of the road, crashing into another motorist has been sentenced at Swansea Crown Court.
Peter Gilmore, 51, had been driving on the A487 between Aberystwyth and Llanrhystud and was seen by other motorists to hit the kerb and swerve over the central white line narrowly missing oncoming traffic. Gilmore’s driving was so concerning that police were called by other road users.
Gilmore turned on to the B4337 driving towards Lampeter and was in the Talsarn area when he went around a bend on the wrong side of the road and collided with another vehicle, seriously injuring the driver.
When Gilmore was in police custody he was asked to provide a blood sample for analysis but refused to provide one.
David Elvy of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Gilmore’s poor driving demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of other motorists.
“He was responsible for a head on collision which left another driver seriously injured.
“This case serves as a reminder to all motorists of the responsibility drivers have when on the roads.”
On 17 April 2025, Peter Gilmore was sentenced to two years and four months in custody, disqualified from driving for six years and two months and ordered to take an extended retest thereafter.
