Motorist jailed for causing fatal collision with taxi driver
A BMW driver has been jailed at Swansea Crown Court for causing the death of a taxi driver by driving dangerously in Pembrokeshire.
Mateusz Sikorski, 30, was travelling towards Penally on the A4139 when he collided head-on with Christopher Boyle, who was travelling in the opposite direction. Tragically, Mr Boyle died as a result of his injuries.
Sikorski initially told police at the scene that Mr Boyle was travelling on the wrong side of the road. He later admitted he was on the wrong side of the road, claiming that the taxi’s headlights had blinded him.
CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station showed Sikorski travelling towards Penally, on the wrong side of the road, moments before the crash.
He admitted his guilt when faced with the evidence against him.
Craig Harding of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Mateusz Sikorski was driving in the dark and on the wrong side of the road.
“The manner of driving posed a major risk to other road users and resulted in fatal consequences.
“Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Mr Boyle’s family and friends who have suffered a dreadful loss.”
Sikorski was sentenced on 8 November 2024 to two years and four months' imprisonment and disqualified from driving for six years and two months.
