Two men sentenced to life imprisonment for Swansea city centre murder
Two men who continued to punch an unconscious man have been sentenced to life imprisonment at Swansea Crown Court for his murder.
Joseph Dix, 26, and Macauley Ruddock, 28, were staying in the Travelodge on Princess Way, having travelled to Swansea for work.
On 16 July 2024 they went drinking in the city centre and met 33-year-old Andrew Main and his friend, who were also staying in the Travelodge.
In the early hours of 17 July 2024 when they had all returned to the Travelodge, a disagreement took place and a fight broke out.
Mr Main was chased by Dix and Ruddock. Dix punched him to the head from behind, knocking him unconscious.
Dix and Ruddock continued to punch him to the head and face as he lay unconscious on the pavement.
Mr Main was taken to hospital but never regained consciousness and died just under a month later on 14 August 2024 from his injuries.
Nia Sturgess of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Joseph Dix and Macauley Ruddock carried out a sickening attack on a completely defenceless man.
“The strong evidence presented by the Crown Prosecution Service resulted in guilty verdicts from the jury.
“A key part of that evidence was witness testimony and all the witnesses have our thanks for supporting this prosecution”.
“Although the case has now concluded our thoughts will remain with the friends and family of Andrew over their loss.”
On 24 January 2025, Dix was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 13 years and 176 days. Ruddock was also sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 13 years and 176 days.
