Man who murdered his housemate on Christmas Eve sentenced
A 24-year-old man who stabbed his housemate to death in Cardiff the day before Christmas has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court.
Dylan Thomas had been sharing a property in the Llandaff area with a friend from school. On 24 December 2023 Thomas returned to the property from his grandmother’s house, armed himself with two knives and stabbed his friend, William Bush, multiple times.
Thomas denied murder but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, relying on psychiatric evidence. However, after hearing all the evidence in the case the jury found Thomas guilty of murder.
Chris Evans of the CPS said: “The actions of Dylan Thomas leading up to the attack demonstrated he was thinking clearly and gave an indication of his intention.
“He carried out internet searches revealing the anatomy of the neck before attending the property and armed himself with two knives after he arrived, before carrying out a frenzied attack on his friend.
“The level of violence was shocking and resulted in the tragic loss of a young man’s life.
“Our thoughts remain with William’s family and friends who have suffered a terrible loss.”
Dylan Thomas was sentenced to life imprisonment on 24 January 2025 and ordered to serve a minimum of 19 years.
