Advocacy is central to our work as prosecutors. CPS advocates now appear in all courts and across the full range of cases. This is as it should be. But whether it is one of our own lawyers or Associate Prosecutors, or a member of the private Bar representing the Crown, the very highest standards of advocacy are essential. These new and updated National Standards of Advocacy clearly set out what we expect from all prosecution advocates. By adhering to them we shall serve the public and uphold justice.
CPS operational informationAdvocacy is a key function of CPS work and is delivered by our own internal advocates, agent prosecutors or members of the self-employed Bar, representing the Crown. Every advocate plays an important role, and every advocate can make a positive difference in every hearing. By instructing both in-house and external advocates we ensure greater flexibility, choice and resilience and have access to a larger pool of quality advocates.
