Man sentenced to life imprisonment for Llanelli murder
A man who murdered his son’s partner has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years at Swansea Crown Court.
Richard Jones, 50, attended the property in Llanelli on 5 July 2024 shortly after Sophie Evans, 30, had arrived home after taking her children to school. Jones killed her and left the house.
At his trial, Jones claimed diminished responsibility for the killing, saying that he believed he was being financially taken advantage of by the victim and his son.
Having heard all the evidence, including evidence from two psychiatrists, the jury rejected that claim convicted him of murder.
Abul Hussain of the Crown Prosecution Service said: "The evidence presented to the jury demonstrated that Richard Jones bore full responsibility for his callous actions.
“Our thoughts remain with Sophie’s family and friends over their tragic loss.”
