Man found guilty of murdering Macauley Byrne in Sheffield and sentenced to life
A man who was found guilty of murdering Macauley Byrne at The Gypsy Queen pub in Beighton, Sheffield, has been sentenced today.
Bovic Mupolo (21) was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 18 years at Sheffield Crown Court for the murder, which took place at the Gypsy Queen pub in Beighton, Sheffield on Boxing Day last year.
Mupolo attacked the victim during a fight in the car park of the pub. He was taken to hospital where he died of his wounds.
Mupolo’s evening began at another pub, the Masons Arms in Wickersley. He then took a taxi to the Gyspy Queen, where an argument occurred near the door of the pub with a group of other young men. This escalated into a fight in the car park which culminated in Mupolo fatally stabbing Macauley Byrne.
The defendant then left the scene and took a taxi to Layton Morris’s home, where he changed his clothes before going out again to the Masons Arms.
Ann Graham from the CPS said: “Mupolo stabbed Macauley Byrne, killing him, on 26 December 2021. What should have been a convivial evening of festive socialising turned into a night of horror and tragedy for Macaulay and his family. Mupolo is now beginning a life sentence. We hope this is of some comfort to Macauley’s family and friends.”
