Very High Cost Cases

The Very High Cost Case (VHCC) fee scheme has been developed by the CPS, working with the Legal Services Commission and the Bar Council, to ensure that the work undertaken by counsel in the preparation and presentation of cases in the Crown Court, Higher Court and at the advice stage is actively managed by the reviewing lawyer, and expenditure in the most complex, serious and expensive cases is subject to proper audit.

Exceptions to spending moratoria applied for by the Crown Prosecution Service

All government departments, including the CPS, have been required by the Government to limit spending, and since 24 May 2010, there have been moratoria in place on spending in specific areas, namely: (a) A freeze on all new ICT spend above £1 million (b) A freeze on all new advertising and marketing spend (c) A freeze on all new consultancy spend (d) Increased control over new property leases and lease extensions and (e) A freeze on Civil Service recruitment
