Jailed: Openshaw man who drugged and raped a woman sentenced

|News, Sexual offences

A man has been jailed for sexual offences against three women, including drugging and raping a woman.

He was sentenced to a 32 year extended sentence, including 24 years in prison and 8 years extended licence at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on 30 November 2023.

Steven Evans, 33, of Openshaw, Manchester, was convicted of 33 sexual offences including 15 rapes between February 2015 and October 2021.

He was also convicted of two counts of administering a noxious substance with intent and two counts of administering a stupefying drug with intent.

Evans tried to evade responsibility, telling the police and the court that any contact between him and the three women was consensual.

The Jury saw through his lies and found him guilty of 37 offences.

Wakkas Javed, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offence Unit, said: “Evans has shown no remorse for what he put the victims through.

“The CPS worked with Greater Manchester Police to build a strong case to put before the jury. The jury, having heard all the evidence, found him guilty of all charges.

“I would like to thank the women for supporting the prosecution and I truly hope that they can move forward with their lives knowing Evans has been punished for his actions.”
