Serial rapist who filmed attacks on unconscious women jailed for life

|News, Sexual offences

A man who filmed himself raping unconscious women and sexually abusing children has been jailed for a string of offences including prostitution and modern slavery.

Nicholas Moxham

Nicholas Moxham, 52, was deemed dangerous at the sentence hearing today before Manchester Crown Court and jailed for life with a minimum term of 22 years, along with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and indefinite notification requirements.

Claire Marsh, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West’s rape and serious sexual offences unit, said: “This is the worst case of its kind that I have seen in my 24 years of prosecuting.

“Nicholas Moxham is a sexual predator who uses and abuses women and children for his own sexual gratification and with complete disregard for the damage his actions cause.

“He showed no remorse, continuing to offend whilst under police investigation and failing to accept responsibility for his abhorrent abuse, meaning the women he targeted and exploited had to relive it at trial.

“The Crown Prosecution Service worked closely with Greater Manchester Police and the women to prove Moxham’s vile offences.

“I sincerely hope the victims in this case will be able to move forward knowing Moxham has been brought to justice.”

In March 2020, Moxham began setting up a brothel from his home in Stockport.

He offered to help six female sex workers get clients by allowing them to use his home to entertain them and later also at a second address in Longsight, Manchester.

As it was during the Covid-19 pandemic, the women were unable to source clients in the usual way and Moxham sought to exploit that.

At first, by offering them a place to meet clients, the women believed he was helping them, but it later became clear he was abusing their trust and taking advantage of them in every way.

Moxham began controlling them, arranging when they would see clients, what services they would provide and how many men they would see in a day.

He controlled their money – firstly by taking money for petrol and expenses, then taking more money as time went on and expecting to have sex with them without payment.

Without the consent of the women or men involved, he would often covertly record the women while they were with clients, sometimes selling the recordings and keeping the money.

He went on to rape two of the women on several occasions while they were asleep.

In his police interview he claimed the women were pretending to sleep or were acting out fantasies but this was quickly disproved at trial.

As part of the investigation, Moxham’s home address was searched on a number of occasions along with a storage container belonging to him.

The police seized several hard drives, USB storage devices, pen drives and covert filming equipment which contained videos of Moxham committing sexual offences, including the rape offences against the two women.

Officers also recovered two videos from Moxham’s devices which revealed he had filmed himself with another woman.

Following a search of the storage unit, indecent images of children were found on Moxham’s devices along with disturbing footage of him sexually assaulting three children.

In total, over 3,000 indecent images of children were recovered.

On 20 June 2022 Moxham pleaded guilty to 11 offences including keeping a brothel, three sexual assaults against children, voyeurism, five offences in relation to indecent images of children, and extreme pornography.

On 30 May 2024, following a trial, Moxham was found guilty of a further 32 offences including several counts of requiring compulsory labour, controlling prostitution for gain, and voyeurism in relation to the women he recruited for prostitution and their clients, along with numerous sexual offences against the women.

Several victim impact statements were read to the court which detailed how the women were traumatised by Moxham’s abuse, with some suffering panic attacks, having difficulty trusting people and struggling to move on.

One woman said Moxham was the “most horrific beast of a monster” and another described him as “torturous”.
