|News, Hate crime , Violent crime

Swift justice has been delivered by the Crown Prosecution Service today in a racist attack that took place on Friday.

Rennel Walker-Arthur, 30, shouted racist abuse at his neighbours on Milton Avenue, East Ham, and threatened to stab them.

Intoxicated by drugs, Walker-Arthur retrieved a kitchen knife from his home, threatened the victims with it whilst shouting racist language, and used the knife to slash at his neighbours’ wall, before being detained by members of the public until police arrived.

Further, whilst being detained, he bit one of the victims, leaving wounds that needed medical treatment.

At Stratford Magistrates’ Court today (5 August 2024), Walker-Arthur pleaded guilty to all eight offences he was charged with, including racially aggravated Actual Bodily Harm, racially aggravated criminal damage, and making threats with a knife.

Due to the seriousness of the hate crimes in this case, Walker-Arthur will be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court at a later date and was remanded into custody. He

Chirandeep Mondol, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “We understand the impact this senseless and frightening hateful behaviour has on victims and the wider community.

“Given the current context of violent disorders across the country, this sort of attack only serves to inflame unacceptable conduct that will not be tolerated.

“The Crown Prosecution Service is committed to bringing those involved in hate crime and knife crime to justice swiftly so that they can feel the full force of the law.”
