Man jailed for rape and sexual assault
A man has been jailed for 17 years for rape and sexual assault after preying on young women in north London.
Leon Alexander, 31, adopted the approach of befriending young lone females, exchanging telephone numbers or social media IDs, before proceeding to sexually assault or rape the victims in secluded areas.
The allegations against Alexander took place in 2010, 2017 and 2022 and involved three victims, including one who was under the age of 16.
In February 2010, Alexander met his first victim through an online platform. They exchanged telephone numbers and messaged each other. The victim was brought to a block of flats in Tottenham, believing that she was entering his residence, but was instead led into a dark communal room where Alexander raped her.
In June 2017, the second victim saw Alexander at a shop in Edmonton. She recognised him having befriended him a year before but stopped contact with him when he sent her an unsolicited photograph of his genitals. Having left the shop, he walked with the victim and talked to her. Alexander pushed the victim into a parked car, exposed his genitals and sexually assaulted her. Alexander texted her later that night, this allowed for him to be traced back and identified through his number.
In March 2022, the third victim left her friend’s flat in Upper Edmonton at around 8pm and noticed Alexander walking outside. Following a brief communication, Alexander proceeded to rape the complainant in the stairwell. She reported the rape to the police that evening and Alexander was arrested.
During a three-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court in March 2023, all three victims gave evidence and the jury convicted Alexander of two offences of rape, and single counts of sexual assault and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was sentenced at the same court on Friday, June 23.
Kunal Dave, District Crown Prosecutor within the RASSO Unit in CPS London North, said: “Alexander is a prolific sexual predator who preyed on young women.
“The ordeals he put the victims through were clearly traumatic. I would like to thank the victims for bravely reporting these matters and helping us to bring Alexander to justice.
“The Crown Prosecution Service will always seek to prosecute rape and serious sexual offences where our legal tests are met. I hope this sentence will give the victims some sense of justice.”
