How many convictions by country of origin between 2018-2023

|FoI Release

Request

How many convictions have there been annually broken down into their country of origin.
Can this be between the period of 2018-2023.
Can this be broken down into the type of crime that was committed.
Can this be split by England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the county of Kent.

Response

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) does record and collate some limited data that falls within the scope of your request and I attach an Excel spreadsheet labelled ‘11830 DATA’, the caveats appended to that data should be noted when considering this data.

In simple terms there are 3 data sets which show the volumes of defendants finalised with a ‘successful’ outcome by Principal Offence Category (POC). The data tables can be summarised as showing:

  • Table 1: Filtered to the CPS Areas in England
  • Table 2: Filtered to just CPS Wales
  • Table 3: Filtered by those that originated in the Kent Police Force Area from 2018 – September 2023

Finally, the CPS does not prosecute offences in Scotland and Northern Ireland, we therefore do not hold such data. To get data for Scotland and Northern Ireland you would need to need to submit your request to the Office of the Procurator Fiscal (Scotland) and the Northern Ireland Prosecution Service.
