Man charged with causing death by driving while uninsured

|News, Driving offences

Peter Burt, acting Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS West Midlands said:  “The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised West Midlands Police to charge Elliott Nash, 33, with causing death by driving while uninsured, as well as driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug (cannabis) above the specified limit.

"The charges are in relation to the death of District Judge Matthew Mawdsley who was struck by several cars on the Aston Expressway, in Birmingham, on 16 December 2022.

“The charges were authorised by the CPS West Midlands Crown Court Unit following a review of evidence received from West Midlands Police.

"Mr Nash was also charged with driving without valid insurance and failing to stop after a road accident and has already pleaded guilty to those offences when he appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
