CPS authorises charges of conspiracy to commit female genital mutilation

Suzanne Llewellyn, Chief Crown Prosecutor at CPS East Midlands, said: “The CPS has authorised Nottinghamshire police to charge a 46-year-old man with conspiring to commit female genital mutilation against a girl.
“The charge relates to an alleged plan to commit the act, which was discovered on a visit to Iraq.
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings are active and the defendant has a right to a fair trial.”
The individual, who cannot be named at this stage, will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6 July.
