Man convicted of manslaughter of Tyreece Daley

|News, Violent crime

A man has been convicted of the manslaughter of a young father who was stabbed to death in South London.

Dejon Anaughe, 28, of Dunoon Road, Forest Hill, was convicted today (28 February 2023) of the manslaughter of 22-year-old Tyreece Daley.

On 2 April 2022, Mr Daley was fatally stabbed in the car park at Beckenham Junction railway station and was taken to hospital with serious injuries which he did not survive. He had been out with other people to celebrate a friend’s birthday at a nightclub, and they had ordered an Uber taxi to drive them back to their hotel.

They were in the car park waiting for the taxi in the early hours of 2 April 2022 when they mistook the car driven by Anaughe for their taxi.

The party approached the car and an argument ensued, after which Anaughe produced a knife and stabbed Mr Daley first, and then another man before he was set upon by the people present.

Anaughe then fled the scene leaving Mr Daley with stab wounds to his head and chest, and the other man suffered stab wounds to his groin and abdomen.

When he was later arrested, he pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article at the time of the offence but denied the other offences claiming that he acted in self-defence.

However, evidence collected from key witnesses, alongside extensive mobile phone and CCTV evidence helped to prove Anaughe’s guilt.

Following a trial that lasted three weeks, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty of the murder of Tyreece Daley but found Anaughe guilty of the manslaughter of Tyreece Daley. He was found not guilty of any offence in relation to the other man.

Emily Clewer of the CPS said: “Mistaking a private car for a taxi should never cost anyone their life and it is tragic that a young father has been cruelly robbed of his future and taken from his loved ones in what is a senseless killing. Those who carry knives pose a danger to society and we will continue to work tirelessly with the police to remove them from our streets. Our thoughts are with Mr Daley’s family as they deal with this terrible loss.”

Dejon Anaughe will be sentenced on 7 March 2023 at Croydon Crown Court.
