Police officer jailed for rape
A Metropolitan police officer has been jailed for rape.
Police Constable Sam McGregor, 33, was today sentenced to four years and six months years imprisonment.
McGregor was found guilty of raping a woman in London in May 2021 after a trial at the Inner London Crown Court in January this year. He deliberately targeted the victim when she was in a vulnerable situation, and she woke up to being raped by him.
When interviewed by the police, McGregor initially denied he’d had sex with the victim at all, but later changed his story to claim they’d had consensual sex when confronted with forensic evidence.
Cassandra Bligh, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “It is shocking to know that someone we trusted to enforce the law has broken it and committed one of the most heinous crimes on a woman.
"Having heard all of the evidence, the jury saw through his lies and believed the victim’s compelling account of being raped by a man she thought was her friend.
“I’d like to express my thanks to the victim who was incredibly brave in coming forward and helped us secure McGregor’s conviction. I hope today helps to bring some closure to her.
“The Crown Prosecution Service is committed to securing justice for victims of rape and sexual abuse and we will prosecute those who commit these appalling crimes to the full extent of the law.”
