CPS publishes latest quarterly statistics which show a continued increase in people charged with rape

Today the CPS has published the Q2 performance data which covers the three-month period from 1 July to 30 September 2022.

This Q2 data release covers the 3-month period 1 July 2022 – 30 September 2022, with the previous three quarters provided to illustrate trends.

Children are often present during non-fatal strangulation, CPS analysis shows

Children were present in more than a third of non-fatal strangulation offences, according to analysis of a sample of cases by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Prosecutors were given additional powers to charge violent abusers with non-fatal strangulation and non-fatal suffocation in June when new legislation came into force.

The CPS has taken a sample of non-fatal strangulation cases to see how the law is being used almost six months on.

Police-CPS Joint National Rape Action Plan – refresh 2022: Annex on delivery against previous commitments

We made 32 commitments in the JNAP. We have completed 24 and eight are in progress. As we have developed this refreshed Joint National Action Plan, we have held sessions using the theory of change model to consider where we can go further, building on what we’ve delivered to date. We will be taking forward the JNAP through 20 actions (including the in-progress actions) outlined in the main strategy document.
