He was sentenced to 42 weeks’ imprisonment.

Christchurch man jailed for harassing woman with messages and videos on social media

A man from Christchurch was sent to prison yesterday (15 March 2023) at Southampton Magistrates’ Court after he admitted harassing a woman by sending her over a hundred messages and videos via Facebook Messenger.

Timothy O’Brien, 55, admitted harassment at an earlier hearing and was sentenced to 17 weeks’ imprisonment. He was also given an indefinite restraining order to provide an ongoing measure of protection for the victim in this case.

Oxfordshire man handed restraining order for sending offensive and threatening email to Jeremy Hunt MP

A man who sent a threatening email to MP Jeremy Hunt in late 2022 has today been sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, following his guilty plea earlier this year. He was also handed a five-year restraining order, preventing him from making any direct or indirect contact with Mr Hunt.

‘Revenge porn’ victims are often stalked and harassed by ex-partners

Victims of so-called ‘revenge porn’ are often also stalked or harassed by ex-partners after their relationship ends, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) data has revealed.

In total, 825 suspects were charged with 1,048 revenge porn offences between April 2020 and June 2022 inclusive.

Revenge porn - the act of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress - has been illegal in England and Wales since 2015 and carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
