A man who set fire to his ex-partner’s house as she slept has been convicted of attempted murder, following a prosecution by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Nicholas Martin, 63, was also convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, following a trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

In the middle of the night, Martin poured petrol through the letterbox of his ex-partner’s house and set it alight before leaving the area. The woman, who jumped out of a first-floor window to safety, is fortunate to have survived the attack.

A man has been jailed for murdering his wife in front of their baby in a pram while out in the streets of Bradford.

Habibur Rahman Masum, 26, of Burnley, Lancashire has been sentenced to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 28 years at Bradford Crown Court today (22 July 2025) for murder, one count of assault, one count of making threats to kill and another count of stalking.

A man who controlled women over a four-year period has been convicted of a string of charges, including rape, controlling or coercive behaviour, and actual bodily harm.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard that George De Bathe, 25, would cut the victims off from their family and friends and control them in a variety of different ways, including taking over their phones and social media, dictating what they wore and ate, and who they saw. He would threaten to kill himself and would even control their sleep, demanding that they constantly replied to his messages throughout the night.

A bakery worker from Riddings, near Alfreton in Derbyshire has been jailed for life for the murder of his partner on their first anniversary.

Kain Taliby, 31, assaulted and killed Chrissie Everett-Hickson in their home after a night out. The couple argued and, during the row, Tailby grabbed Chrissie by the neck and struck her head on the floor several times. He then tried to clean up any sign that he had attacked or injured her. Chrissie died in hospital from head injuries sustained in the attack.
