Joe Murphy - Administrative Officer working on file preparation of magistrate court cases and former Apprentice
I saw the Apprenticeship opportunity advertised externally and applied initially via the external training provider for the NVQ. They went through my application with me after an initial sift and gave me advice about how to sell myself. My application was then sifted by the CPS and I attended an interview and completed a competency-based test.
The Apprenticeship lasted one year and included a Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration. I was assigned an external tutor who supported me through the process and came to see me to conduct assessments every few weeks.
At the end of the Apprenticeship, I successfully applied for a permanent post. I am now an Administrative Officer working on file preparation of magistrate court cases. I liaise with the police, courts, probation and also update the IT system following court hearings.
The Apprenticeship was great and I love my job. I learn something new every day and have grown in confidence since joining the CPS. While there are challenges with the time constraints, the best thing about the job is the sense of trust and working in partnership with the other agencies. I really feel I am making a difference and the team I work with is great.
I would definitely recommend these Apprenticeships. It was a great stop gap between finishing education and the next step up. You get lots of support and it really helps your confidence to grow.
